30.11.2007 - RMK will switch to domain-based accounting 29.09

As of 1 January 2008, the State Forest Management Centre (RMK) will switch to domain-based accounting. Accountants in the finance department will specialise in the functions of purchase, sale and salaries.

This will mean simpler management of business for clients and co-operation partners of RMK, as in the future invoices will be issued centrally rather than by forest districts as is currently done.

“The quality of accounting and motivation packages will improve, as RMK will be able to pay competitive salaries to accountants,” said Aigar Kallas, Chairman of the Management Board of RMK.

Today RMK employees 77 people dealing with finances in the finance department, regions, forest districts and nursery management. As of 1 January 2008, there will be 36 employees, plus three employees on child care leave, in the finance department of RMK.

The organisation organised internal competition on 5 November in order to find the most suitable people to fill 21 accountant positions. 53 employees gave notice of their wish to work in the finance department under the new work procedure. The selection between candidates will be made on 30 November 2007. Personnel search company Fontes has also been included in the recruitment process. Criteria for evaluation were work experience, education, accuracy, conscientiousness, motivation, professional skills, co-operation abilities and numerical capabilities.

Collectively, 38 employees will be made redundant. RMK will help the dismissed accountants find new jobs through the Central Federation of Employers and the Labour Market Board, and will provide professional consulting if necessary. A representative of the Labour Market Board said that the situation for accountants is favourable and that there is a need for accountants all across Estonia.

RMK will pay additional compensation to the employees that are made redundant according to their employment history in addition to the compensations under law. The entire process is co-ordinated with the Union of Estonian Forest Industry Workers.

RMK is a profit-making state institution established under the Forest Act and its main task is the sustainable and effective management of state forests. RMK grows forest regeneration material, organises work in the woods, the sale of timber, and takes care of game. In addition, RMK creates possibilities for recreation in rest areas in the forest and shapes nature awareness. RMK manages 38% of the forests in Estonia.
RMK employs over 1100 people.
